The Gallup CliftonStrengths assessment, sometimes also known by its previous name of Clifton StrengthsFinder is an evidence-based assessment that identifies a person’s unique sequence of 34 themes of talent. 

The assessment was created by Don Clifton and it was his cutting edge research into strengths-based development that had the American Psychological Association award him a Presidential Commendation as the Father of Strengths-Based Psychology. 

Today it is used by over 90% of Fortune 500 companies and is a key to team empowerment, accomplishment and greater leadership. 

If your people understand their unique talents they perform better at their jobs and become better team members with greater awareness and consideration of the talents of others. Differences become celebrated rather than a source of contention.  

The Momentum Architects use CliftonStrengths as a key foundation piece when working with organisations as it provides a common language and transformational understanding. It can provide the starting point to building a stronger culture and a culture focused on continual growth and improvement embraced by the entire organisation. 

The inaugural Strengths Meta-Analysis study by Gallup in 2015 and then updated in 2018 shows that strengths-based development has a significant effect on key performance outcomes.

More about the CliftonStrengths Assessment

The CliftonStrengths assessment is an online assessment of personality traits from the perspective of positive psychology. There are 177 paired statements of which you choose the ‘end of the spectrum’ most applicable to you.   

Completing the assessment will provide a sequence of 34 (depending on the level of assessment taken) themes demonstrating how you naturally think, feel and behave. 

Generally, the top 5-10 are your most dominant talents and the chance of you having the same top 5 talents in the same order as someone else is 1 in 33 million (source: Gallup). 

Adding skills, knowledge and experience to these innate talents enable them to become strengths. 

E.g. being drawn toward strangers and enjoying the challenge of making a connection with them is a talent (from the Woo theme), whereas the ability to consistently build a network of supporters who know you and are prepared to help you is a strength.

The underlying philosophy of strengths-based development is that weaknesses should be managed but will never become strengths whereas strengths have infinite potential. Therefore if we focus on what’s right vs what’s wrong with people, exponential growth can occur.
